This month’s photograph was taken by Matte Lanigan and is of the Heyfield Mechanics’ Institute being moved to its new home as a hall at St. James Church. The photo was taken in 1954 and you can see Jim Draper, the local policeman on the roof helping to lift the electrical wires over the hall. It was market day at the stockyards, so the main street was very busy. Apparently, according to Gerald Molphy, as the hall was towed around the corner there was a huge horrified gasp as the hall seemed to teeter. Luckily it kept its balance and was safely delivered.
